In this Study K Raghavendra Rao has made an attempt to understand the role of political organisations in the formation of linguistic states in India. The author has examined the relationship between the political developments and the political modernisation in respect of Karnataka during the period 1947-1956. Through this study, the author has succeeded to show that the linguistic states need not be a threat to national integration. The relationship between the two is complimentary and not competitive. The conclusions of this have all India implications. He has taken into account the role of caste factors, regional feelings, party affiliations etc in the formation of Karnataka in 1956.
